It feels like you’re part of the world, slowly making your way through it, rather than just wandering aimlessly. You still have the endgame goal which is to shut down Brain Scorcher and Miracle Machine, and the addition of AKM-like messaging system, as well as an abundance of different missions you can do make the Zone feel like a really lively place. Auto weapons that I have access to at this point just aren’t worth it - bad ammo economy and bad damage per bullet make them a subpar - actually, the free roam doesn’t feel that different from regular Stalker games. Not gonna lie though, picking the Toz-34 (shotty) turned out to be a great move when it comes to killing mutants (and human enemies too). Even the starter pistol you get is very deadly if you know how to aim. I just assaulted the bandit base (vehicle station) and the southern military checkpoint in Cordon and both assaults went through without a hitch. The Anomaly mod, from what I read, rebalances Last Day to be much more accessible and less forgiving, so it might be a nice hybrid.Ĭertainly feels that way.
